Project Monitoring 30.1.2014

This week according to my schedule I was suppose to be writing my last 2 articles that need to be written and I have completed both of these articles, I completed my first article that needed to be written last week when I had free time and I felt if i was able to complete this article then, then it would set me in good stead and I would be in a good position, my last article was completed this week again in some free time that I had, so I feel that I have compeleted some of the aims that I set my self for this week.  I took my time to write these articles and looked in to my research, and looked at my article plans about how I am going to write some certain articles. Another thing that needed to be completed was some photo edits that needed to be done, but I feel have already edited the photos in a way I feel will make them look a lot better, I did this when I had finished my photo's this is because I feel that if I did it then, then I wouldnt need to go back and edit them another time, and like doing my article it would set me in good stead. The edits that I did were to enhance the colour, make them brighter and make them seem a lot more appealing by putting 'auto-colour' on and other little things such as enhcancing the contrast and saturation to make sure that my models looked positive and a lot more attractive, I also went through and looked at their face and used 'spot healing tool' to enhance spots and make sure there were no faults with in the face. One of my other aims was to start my front cover, I started my front cover a while back as I felt if I started it early I would be able to carry on well and it would allow me to move forward more flutently and successfully, my front cover is nearly finished, I haven't given it the final touces as I have moved on to my contents page as I feel I need to move at a quick pace and get things started to give me a good chance of hitting the deadline. I feel that my actions went to plan. because I have been able to atleast start or in some cases finish the aims I gave myself, such as my articles and the starting and nearly finished front cover.  A positive of my work is that I havent had to relate to my contingency as nothing has gone wrong just minor changes that I feel have helped my product, like instead of using two models on my front cover, going for one to give my self more space and a larger area to be able to work with.

I feel that I have focused well on my aims and have managed to follow the aims I set my self, such as my front cover I haven't changed a lot and I haven't really changed a lot, I have just made changes that I feel will enhance my grade, such as my contents page I have changed the layout to one I saw in Four Four Two as I feel it is effective and looks rather good.

Photoshoot Plan - Thomas

Photo shoot planning document

Date and time of photo shoot: tbc

Material to be shot:
DPS 1 – A young lad stood next to some goal posts with a football.

What personnel do you need? No personnel needed due to the fact the shot is exterior and I want it to be natural so the child will look natural and innocent

Models:  Tom Beauchamp

What props will you need?
Football

Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs.
I will not need any makeup because I feel that the make up will take away the natural feel I’m trying to give to the story and take away the innocence of the young, so if i have him muddy and messy it will give a cross the feeling of a young boy.  The costume needed will be any football kit, so this shows the love for football and how it can get all messy and how it is a young lads favourite item of clothing.

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
Due to it being exterior I will not need any kind of lighting just a natural light to again show the naturalness of the article.

Backdrop:
Natural, the park, to show again the young and innocent, having fun.

Lighting equipment needs:

None.

Photoshoot Plan - Callum

Photo shoot planning document

Date and time of photo shoot: tbc

Material to be shot:
DPS 3 – A teenager again stood close to the camera with a rugby ball in his hand throwing it up, then another of him in a kind of action shot, him about to start running on his knees.

What personnel do you need?
Lighting Assistant : To create a bright light on the ball photo, to make it look as if he is having fun playing rugby, and then I will need a single spotlight when he is about to go for a run, to make it look as if he is the most important thing in the frame.
Make up Assistant – To make him like shiny and golden to give off a feel of importance.

Models:  Callum Worrall

What props will you need?
Rugby Ball

Describe in detail your make-up & costume needs.
My make up will need to be subtle but enough to make him look golden and very important to show he is an important player on the pitch. Costume will be a rugby training kit to show the narrative of the article and what its based on.

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
I will be using butterfly lighting for the first as again it creates a night light airy feel and looks positive, for the second a single spotlight to show he is the focus.

Backdrop:
White, because if I use a white background it doesn’t make the article look sad, it makes it look happy and bright.

Lighting equipment needs:
I will need lots of lamps that make the room seem bright and happy, giving the photo a good positive feel.

My make up will need to be subtle but enough to make him look golden and almost perfect, to reflect a happy and positive article, he needs to look active and very happy. My choice of costume will most likely be a light top, white or light blue to show happiness and positivity it is light and stands out.

favourite item of clothing.

Studio shoots: what kind of lighting?
I will be using butterfly lighting because it creates a nice large airy feel, it will make it look bright and positive.

Article Plan - Try Harder

Article Planning Sheet
Plan the language use of the primary code of your article in the box below.

Article target audience: Young Teenagers

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
This type of article is a kind of work article, a review, to try and make someone better at what they are, improving and teaching, the purpose of this article is to give tips on wingers who play rugby and how to improve with their agility and things, and to also explain how wing play and being fast and agile is as important in rugby as being a good hard tackler.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
Again it will be 2nd person, this is because i am addressing the audience, explaining to them how they can improve and telling them how important being a wing player, by doing this the readers will feel comfortable.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
This article will be informal as I am trying to draw them in and make them read, and try to make them feel comfortable if my register is too formal they may find it boring, like my other articles it wont be too informal as that would make it look tacky I feel. I will use dialect to make them feel more comfortable.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
I will be using adjectives to describe certain players and certain styles of play, i will maybe use metaphors and similes to give good bold examples of certain players, and I may use alliteration to make it sound clever and energetic.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone wont be too serious as like I said I don’t want them to feel like they are being bored, so I will try to be “matey” and jokey towards them so they feel at home, but not too friendly as it needs to be serious when im explaining how you can improve.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
The pace will be large sentences but small paragraphs, contrast to my other but I believe this means it will flow slowly and people will take it in more. I want it to be structured so people feel its more serious and understand it more and accept it more.

Article Plan - Broken Dreams

Article Planning Sheet
Plan the language use of the primary code of your article in the box below.

Article target audience: Young Teenagers

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
This type of article is an interview, i have done this to point out the physical and mental effects of a bone break in sport and how it can effect people, i have tried to put a positive stance on the article to show how it can change your life in a positive way, the purpose of this article is so that young people understand how it can change someone’s life, and also to put across that things like this can happen.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
Due to it being an interview it was hard to use a narrative voice, but it would most likely be second, I chose second because like my first article I can address the audience, and explain to them the interview and how it happened. I am able to address them and explain to them the situation
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
It will most likely be more formal than informal due to the fact this article will be very serious and if its too formal it may not get that serious message across. It wont be too formal though, I will use a bit of dialect to again make them feel comfortable this means that it the article is still serious but is not too boring.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
I will be using no stylistics as I don’t feel them necessary in this type of article.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
The tone will be a serious tone as it is a serious article and I don’t want that to be taken away with the way I put it across, but to make it not seem to sinister and dark I will make it “matey”.

Article Plan - Jumpers for Goalposts

Article Planning Sheet
Plan the language use of the primary code of your article in the box below.

Article target audience: Young Teenagers

Planning Comments
article genre
(purpose, type)
This type of article is a human interest article, its purpose is to get people thinking about what it is about the beautiful game that attracts us and why you love it so much. I want them to wonder why they started playing football and how they got in to football. I want them to be drawn in to the many different ways you can get in to sport.
Narrative voice
(1st, 2nd or 3rd person)
It will be second narrative as I think this article can relate to a lot of young lads out there so if I address them, then they will be more interested, and referring to them as “you” may draw them in and it means that I can write the article as if I explaining the article to them.
Register
(informal/formal, colloquial, dialect, taboo words?)
It will be mostly informal but not too informal, due to the fact the if its too informal the secondary target audience of the magazine will not be too happy. But if its too formal my primary audience may think its too boring and serious. I will use some small uses of colloquial language and local dialect so the audience feels more at home and more comfortable.
Stylistics
(repetition, strong verbs, adjectives, alliteration, similes, metaphors, sentencing, rhythm)
There will be lots of repetition as I will be reiterating my point to try and put it across, I will use adjectives to try and describe the fun of starting football young.
Tone of address
(hectoring, sarcastic, ‘matey’, ironic, etc)
It will be ‘matey’ as I want my article to feel comfortable and so that they are able to find it funny but interesting and have a laugh, not too serious as young lads wont enjoy that.
Structure and pace
(discourse structure, logical paragraphing, connectives, conclusion)
The pace will be short sentences in rather large paragraphs to give it some variety, and it will have structure as I don’t want it to look too shabby and disorganised, but I don’t want it to look too serious.

Project Monitoring 23.01.2014

In this week of production I managed to get 2 of my photoshoots done, I think that my photoshoot went well because my models cooperated well due to the fact I had a meeting with them before, I told them how they should pose, their costume, what props they need. Another thing that was good was my lighting, due to the fact at first I wanted butterfly lighting, but i made a discovery that the use of broad lighting would me a lot more effective.  I am happy with this because it means that I am well on my way with my product meaning that I wont have a carry on of needing photos sooner or later, this is also a positive as it means I am able to now start shaping my Front cover, and the two double page spreads that I have taken the photographs for. I have also made a start on my front cover and got well away with it, now being able to place my image, create my masthead and I have added sky lines and sell lines on. I feel that this is good progress as it means that later on i will be able to get away with my Double Page Spreads. I think that with my front cover I have made progress due to the fact that I have learnt a lot, able to know the size of sell lines and mastheads. I have learnt how to use the burn tool and the dodge tool to enhance the look of my photo, used auto-colour to make it look brighter, I also learnt how layer pictures and text, due to the fact i Put my masthead behind my photo by using the pen tool and cutting it out then placing it over the top.  Another bit of progress I made was the i am nearly finished my second article, I think this puts me in good stead for now being able to get well away with it, meaning i will be able to start the double page spread for it very soon.

this is my front cover this week

I tried my best to follow my schedule, I looked at some magazine front covers and Double Page Spread's and noted down some features that I liked the look, I did indeed look at fonts I feel I should download it but did not download any as I didn't find any that really caught my eye. I didn't look at the exact colour codes that I want, but I did manage to find some when choosing what colour I wanted then noted them down, all in all I feel that I have followed my schedule briefly, but not right down to the letter which could come as a bit of problem later on if I lose time to do things.

Schedule

Production Schedule and monitoring document

Week
Date
Activity
1
13th Jan
1 Schedule Creation: In this first week I will be creating my schedule, by creating a schedule it means I will be able to do tasks that will make it easier for me to complete by project by February 15th, by doing small tasks it means I will be able to have a much more organised project and it means it will have been done more efficiently.

2 Schedule Creation: Today I will be looking at my other A levels and seeing what other commitments I have to commit to, this will include other coursework deadlines, trips and even exams, this means my schedule will be very realistic and up to date. But in order to be able to do this I will need ask my other teachers the situation with my certain deadlines with in the next 6 weeks.

3 By this lesson I will have finished my planning, due to the fact this week is only 3 day week, I am off college for 2 days, I will use these 2 days to finish my planning off, and therefore this means I will be able to complete my blog.

4 Project Monitoring – For 20 minutes of every last lesson of the week, Mark will assess our progress so far, then I will carry on with what ever activity I have set my self, but due to the fact we aren’t in this Thursday, this activity can not be completed.

On Thursday due to being off, I am going to go in to go in to town and buy some props, I will then come and do my photoshoot with Callum due to the fact this is the only time that he is free, and I feel because I have already done a photoshoot with Josh, doing mine with Callum first means I will be able to know what im doing and get straight in to it as it is pretty straight forward.  On the Friday of this week I will be doing my photoshoot Josh, even though I have already done this one I feel I will benefit if I try again, now knowing how I need him to pose and the best way to look, this means I will get the best outcome. Then on the weekend, I will hopefully do it with Thomas, by doing it with Thomas means I will have them all done and ready and I will be able to do it with Thomas in my free time and his.

Homework 1: To find out my Travel and Film deadlines.

Homework 2: Finish my blog.

Homework 3: Make sure my plan is finished.

Exams/other subject deadlines:  Film creative coursework – film making is to take place with in the next month, Travel and Tourism dealing 30th Jan.

2
20th Jan
1 In today’s lesson I have decided it would be a good idea to have a look at some magazine articles in sports magazines, just before I start production, as I feel there could be a little font style or breakout box that I feel could work well in one of my Double Page Spread’s so it would be a good idea to just before I go in to production to have one little look at some magazines which may be able to enhance my magazine and give it another dimension.

2 In the second lesson of the week I think it will be a good idea to do a bit of font research, if I’m able to download some fonts that I feel will do a good an effective job now, it means that later on I will not be worrying about fonts and spending half an hour looking for fonts when I could be doing something worth while and productive.  I think this will be good as it means my project will be a lot more organised, and it means I wont be worrying and rushing later on during production. I will do this for half an hour then figure out my exact colour codes. If I go in to In Design and choose my exact colours, I can the not down the codes and it means that when I go on to do my pages I will be able to just type in a certain colour code for a certain breakout box or on my kicker, and it means like everything I have done this week it will be a little more organised and efficient.

3 In today’s lesson I think it will be a good idea to plan my sell lines, this is because, like doing my font research it means things will already be done and I will be able to just put them straight in to my Double Page Spread’s meaning that it will seem a lot more organised and a lot more efficient.

4 Project Monitoring & In today’s lesson I will start writing my second article, which is called “Jumpers for Goalposts” I feel this is a good time to do it because even thought its not this first week or the earliest in to the production it is still near the start and I feel if I write my articles now then I will be able to go over them later on and see if I can add anything that will improve it.

Homework 1: Make sure everything I have done this week is finished. Complete if not.

Homework 2: finish off my “Jumpers for Goalposts” Article.

Exams/other subject deadlines: My Travel deadline will be extremely soon so therefore I will be making that a priority to get that done. My film production will still be carrying on so that make a few of my frees up.

3
27stJan
1 In this lesson I will write my last article, this is called “Try Harder”. If I have a week which is dedicated to my articles and not jumbled up, it means that my week will be a little more focused and it means I may be able to get it finished.

2 In this lesson I will finish off my two articles If I have finished them off meaning that they will hopefully be finished by the end of the week, meaning next week I can move on to something else.

3 I will in this lesson do some small photo edits, getting my self back in to photoshop and make sure that they look good enough to be put in to my Double Page Spread. I think it will be good to edit my photo’s because it means that my photo’s will look the best they can and hopefully the edit may be able to do something that gives a good effect to the article.

4 Project Monitoring & In this lesson I think a good idea is to start my front cover, because if I start now it means I that I feel I will have started my magazine, as the front cover is the first thing you can see. It also means that I will be underway with my project.

Homework 1: Carry on with front cover

Homework 2: I will go through my flat plans ready for next week, and see if I think anything needs changing.

Exams/other subject deadlines: This week it will be the hand in of my Travel coursework so that will take priority.

4
3rd   Feb
1 In this lesson, I will get my self up to date with InDesign, In here I am going to set up my templates and then saving them, by doing this when it comes to starting my production I will have some pages already set up so I can go straight in and set them up according to how I want them. This also means when I come to my production I wont be spending a lesson getting to grips again with it, it means that will be able to go straight in and I will know how to do certain things.

2 In this lesson I will then put my articles and photographs in, meaning that next lesson I can start my production and start really getting down to it.

4 Project Monitoring & In this lesson I will start on my first Double Page Spread “Broken Dreams”, and making it, now my articles and photographs are in, it means that I am able to start on my first part of production, setting it out, putting in my colours and break out boxes, this will hopefully be simple and pretty straight forward if I follow my flat plans.

Homework 1:  Try carry on with my first double page spread in my frees.

Homework 2 : try get my front cover done.

Homework 3: Try get my Contents done.

Exams/other subject deadlines: tbc

2 I will go over my 3 Double Page Spreads, and see if there is anything that I can change.
